Laser Hair Removal
How it works.
Laser hair removal works by sending a beam of laser light to a group of hair follicles with enough power to disable or destroy the root, but not enough power to harm the surrounding skin. This process is called selective photothermolysis. It is selective because it targets only the hair and not the skin. Photo means light and thermolysis means destroying with heat. The surrounding skin is usually cooled. Some methods include a gel, a spray, or a cooling tip.
Hair Removal by Laser is NOT ELECTROLYSIS. Electrolysis is a method of removing individual hairs one-at-a-time by directing an electric current into each hair follicle. This is the high tech/modern day method of destroying massive amounts of hair follicles with a simple trigger pull.
Laser only destroys hair in its active growth phase, the anagen phase. This phase lasts several years, and up to 85% of our hair is in that phase at any given time. The good thing is that during this phase, the hair has an abundance of melanin and the hair follicle is easily targeted.
This procedure requires an average of 5 laser treatments depending on the person's skin type and response to the treatments. We offer laser hair removal individually or in a package of 5. Any unused portion of a package may be applied towards another treatment or service.
Type of Laser:
We Use the Apogee Elite Two in One Laser System. The Elite offers the most optimal wavelengths for:
- Facial and leg telangiectasias
- Treatment of sun-damaged skin
This is an effective, fast, comfortable and safe laser for permanent hair removal.
Pre / Post treatment instructions.
Pre-treatment
- Stop waxing, tweezing, and bleaching prior to treatment for a few weeks.
- Do not laser if you have sunburn, a suntan is okay.
- Shave before treatment but a shadow or stubble is desirable.
Post-treatment
- After the treatment, you may have redness or bumps. This is normal. You may use a cold compress if needed.
- Makeup may be used. Moisturizer is good to use.
- Use sun block of SPF 25 or more for a couple of weeks after your treatment.
- The only other acceptable hair removal method during your treatment regimen is shaving if needed.
- Hair will shed up to three weeks after treatment. It may seem like new hair growth, but it is just the hair coming out. You can help the hairs out by using a loofah or washcloth.
Laser Facial
How it works.
LaserFACIAL is a non-ablative procedure that can reduce visible facial vessels, diffuse redness, acne scars, Rosacea, sun damage, and large pores. It has been FDA approved to reduce wrinkles by gently warming the upper dermis, improving the appearance of your skin. The result is a healthy looking and vibrant appearance.
The LaserFACIAL procedure utilizes laser technology that can safely, discretely and effectively treat small targets. Unlike many other treatment methods, LaserFACIAL is a comfortable, non-ablative form of skin therapy. This means you will be able to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Your therapy can be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of general or local anesthesia, gel or cream.
Unlike many other procedures available today, with LaserFACIAL skin therapy, your certified technician can safely treat all areas. The most common is facial, neck and chest.
Will it hurt?
No, LaserFACIAL is a comfortable, non-ablative, non-invasive treatment. Unlike other laser treatments it does not wound the skin's surface therefore virtually eliminating the need for complicated post treatment care. Typically patients describe the treatment as a gentle warming of the surface.
Pretreatment instructions.
There are no complicated pretreatment rituals with this procedure. Prior to the actual LaserFACIAL treatment you will be asked to remove your make-up moisturizers and, in some cases, you may be asked to shave the area to be treated so as not to interfere with the laser treatment. Your technician will review and assist with all pretreatment requirements. There are no numbing creams used in this procedure.

Laser Vein Therapy
How it works.
Brief light pulses are delivered to the vein through the skin's surface. They are absorbed by hemoglobin (the substance that gives blood the reddish, purple color) and converted into heat. This heat causes the walls of the vein to collapse which, in turn, stops the blood flow. Once this happens, the vein is slowly absorbed into the body, disappearing from sight.
Laser technology enables a certified technician to collapse the veins without doing any damage to the outer layers of skin. The wavelength discharged through the pulse enables the light to reach the target veins under the skin while evading the outer skin entirely. The light pulses are delivered so quickly, there is not enough time for the skin to be damaged.
Will it hurt?
When the laser is used, it produces a minor tingling feeling and causes the skin to become slightly red. This usually subsides after a few days. Cooling agents are in place in order to maximize comfort and protect the outer layers of the skin. A local anesthetic can be used if a patient finds the application of the laser too uncomfortable.
Post-treatment instructions.
What To Do After The Treatment:
This procedure results in rapid healing with minimal side effects. Some patients occasionally blister, experience temporary skin discoloration, bruising and/or reddening of the skin. These conditions usually subside anywhere between a few weeks and a few months.
After the procedure, for the first 48 hours, patients should avoid any strenuous activity, keep the treatment area moist with antibiotic cream and avoid any anti-inflammatory or aspirin related medications. Patients should also wear support hose for at least three days. This will reduce any inflammation and build-up that might cause the legs to swell or cause the veins to return.
The most important thing to do after treatment is limit your exposure to the sun. All patients' skin will be very susceptible to sunlight. If patients do need to go outside for any reason, sunscreen should be worn at all times.
The results.
Laser vein treatment works by breaking up veins so that they can be dissolved and absorbed by the body. This does not happen immediately. Veins usually dissolve over the course of several weeks. If patients take all the necessary precautions following their treatments, a vein disorder free life is a real possibility.
EVLT (endo-venious laser treatment)
How it works.
EVLT involves first using duplex ultrasound to map out the saphenous vein and then moving a laser fiber through the vein to the groin. The laser then emits highly targeted energy to seal the vein shut. Thermal ablation causes contraction and permanent occlusion of the blood vessel wall. Unlike treatments such as sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy, and ligation and stripping, EVLT addresses the main underlying source of the problem.
Ablation of the saphenous vein treats varicose veins without the costs or risks associated with open surgical procedures.
Will it hurt?
FDA-cleared EVLT is designed to be a 45-minute office procedure to treat varicose veins at the source. EVLT requires only local anesthetic and enables patients to return to normal activity immediately - with no or minimal irritation.
Am I at risk from the laser?
No. You will be given a pair of special glasses to wear to protect your eyes, however this is just a precaution against accidental firing of laser energy outside the body.
Post-treatment instructions.
What To Do After The Treatment:
The patient should walk for 20 minutes immediately after treatment and at least 1 hour per day for 1 week. Allow approximately 4 weeks for healing, as well as spontaneous improvement or even resolution of veins connected to the treated area. About 6 months after treatment, laser or sclerotherapy may be needed to cosmetically touch up any left over smaller veins.
